Your may have had a nephew, a friend, yourself or even a professional company design and build your badly designed website. Now not all web sites from friends and family will have turned out ugly. But, there are a large amount of websites on the net with designs that are hard one the eyes, hard to navigate and not optimized for search and conversions. If you are an owner of a badly designed site, don’t feel bad there are many affordable, quick, and easy ways to get your website up to date.
For those of you who are aware your website may not be the best looking or performing as well as you’d like but are unsure if you should upgrade your site, here are a few reasons you should update.
For some of your potential clients your webpage might be a first impression or a second impression of your company. What does your website say about the professionalism of your company? How likely are you to do business with a company with a tacky and broken site? Your website should have the exact same professionalism and attention to detail as your businesses product or service.
Your site may hurt your first impression to internet users; your site may also hurt your impressions with search engines. A badly coded site can really harm your sites ability to be properly “seen” by search engines. Your sites code may also not be utilizing all the functions to please the search engines to get your site ranked highly in your market. A clean coded website along with properly used HTML tags will greatly increase your rankings within the search engines.
Websites that are hard to navigate will lose your money. Websites with missing or broken files will also lose your money. Your website should have any broken links or be confusing for users to find exactly what they want to find (or as the case may be: what you want them to find). Your website should be designed with the user in mind. When looking at your own website, where does your eye go first? Second? Third?
Within those three glances a user should be able to know: Who are you, what you are selling, or what you do and a call to action. What is the goal for an internet user on your page? To call you? Fill out a form? Join your newsletter?
Keep in mind that if you do get a new website design do not to overdo your website. People tend to think a good website has a bunch of flashy items on the page. But remember, we want the users’ eyes to focus on our company and the call to action… not the cool animation going on.
If you have a little bit of knowledge about writing HTML code you may want to look into using a template for your website. A lot of people have negative views on templates that just aren’t true. Templates are an affordable avenue to have your website looking like one that cost thousands of dollars. A major hesitation is the thought that one of your competitors will have your site design. For all the website that I’ve set up with a template, I have yet to ever see another website with that template! I’ve set up template sites for major fields like mortgages, doctors, and pharmaceutical markets. There are so many websites on the internet that the odds of you finding another site with your layout… well let’s put it this way, you’d be more likely to win the lottery.
And of course there is always the route of hiring a company to create a design for you. If you go this route, make sure to tell your designer exactly what you want in your site. Tell them your sites goal, so they can design a site to help achieve those goals.
If you are unsure if your site needs a facelift, ask friends and coworkers for their honest opinions on your site… it may hurt, but it is better than having an ugly website.
